A couple of months ago, a friend of mine came to visit me in San Francisco. She saw a pile of boxes at the entrance and asked me if I was moving out. I told her I was returning the clothes I bought online. Being a good friend, she urged me to read more about the damage that frequent returns do to our planet. My co-founder and I spent the next couple of months researching about the devastating effects returns have on the environment.
A pile of boxes destined to get returned
Six billion pounds of e-commerce returns ended up in the landfill in 2019 in the US alone. Repackaging, restocking, and waste increases congestions and CO2 emissions, among other things.
My co-founder and I soon realized that this was a problem we wanted to solve.
Your Body Double in vestico
In our research, we’ve learned that three out of every ten fashion items we buy online get returned. Why? Because they don’t fit properly. Most of us don’t look like the models we see online, so it’s difficult to make the right decisions about size and fit. vestico wants to show you how someone with your body measurements looks in what you want to buy. Imagine wanting to buy jeans, and instead of seeing images of the model, you see your body double rocking them. We think that’s life-changing. It’s like looking in the mirror before you buy. We want to help fashion retailers connect shoppers with similar body measurements with one another so that we can all buy the right fit. We want to eliminate the uncertainty with size and fit, so together, we can decrease returns that hurt our planet.
